A Beginning for Mathematics
Recent advances in AI systems have progressed remarkably from being unable to reliably add numbers three years ago to autonomously resolving major open mathematical questions today. Rather than predicting AI will simply "solve" mathematics, the author argues that without institutional adaptation, human mathematical understanding and progress could stall despite AI's superhuman capabilities. The author proposes a positive vision where mathematics education can deepen human understanding and produce quality mathematicians even as AI becomes increasingly responsible for producing mathematical results.
