ArXiv's Next Chapter

On July 1, 2026, arXiv will become an independent nonprofit organization after spinning out from Cornell University, where it has been based for 25 years. The platform, which provides free access to scientific preprints, will maintain its core mission, values, and commitment to free submission and reading, with minimal disruption expected for users. arXiv has created a FAQ page and plans to release a series of blog posts to keep the community informed about the transition, new leadership, and organizational updates.
