Colonization of Venus

Venus colonization proposals focus on floating habitats in the upper atmosphere rather than surface settlements due to the planet's extremely hostile surface conditions, though the concept has been explored in both science fiction and scientific discussions. Venus offers advantages over other colonization targets like Mars or the Moon, including Earth-like gravity (0.904 g), closer proximity to Earth, and an upper atmosphere at 50 km altitude where temperatures and pressure are manageable and breathable-air balloons could float. However, significant challenges exist, including the planet's thick cloud cover and extreme surface conditions that would require terraforming before any ground-based settlement could be established.
