Firefox Merges Support for Vulkan Video Decoding

Firefox has merged support for Vulkan Video decoding, which will be available in Firefox 153 releasing July 21, 2026. This development addresses limitations of the previously Linux-focused VA-API by providing cross-platform GPU-accelerated video decoding that works better with a wider range of graphics drivers, including NVIDIA and Arm/embedded systems. The feature was developed by engineers from NVIDIA and Red Hat.
