Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed the first state-led lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging the company knowingly released ChatGPT to the public while concealing serious risks, suppressing internal safety warnings, and marketing it to children despite knowing the dangers. The complaint claims OpenAI prioritized commercial gain over user safety, failed to address data collection from minors, and caused behavioral addiction and cognitive harm. The lawsuit follows a criminal investigation into ChatGPT's interactions with a gunman involved in a Florida State University shooting in April 2025.
