It is time to give up the dualism introduced by the debate on consciousness

Theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli argues that consciousness is not separate from the physical world but rather a complex natural phenomenon, challenging the traditional dualistic view of body and soul inherited from medieval Western thought. He contends that the perceived "hard problem of consciousness" exists not because consciousness is non-physical, but because understanding the brain's functioning is simply extremely complicated, similar to other complex natural phenomena like thunderstorms. Rovelli suggests that updating our scientific understanding of consciousness need not diminish its reality or importance, just as our modern understanding of sunsets doesn't make them less real than when they were once believed to be the sun's daily descent.
