Largest known Roman mosaic, beneath Baths of Trajan, opens to the public

The largest Roman mosaic ever discovered, found beneath Rome's Baths of Trajan during 1990s excavations, has opened to the public for the first time. The first-century "Muse and the Philosopher" mosaic, measuring 10 meters high and stretching 16 meters along a wall, is accompanied by a fresco depicting a walled port city and is believed to predate the Baths themselves. Public viewings began in mid-September and will continue Friday through Sunday starting October 2.
