Laya the open source version of Jev

Nandakishor Mukkunnoth, founder of ConvAI Innovations, released Laya, an open-source non-autoregressive decision model that runs in under 35 milliseconds and supports over 100 languages, after a frontier lab called TypeSafe AI launched a similar proprietary product called Jev in September 2026. Laya, built on reinforcement learning and bidirectional encoders, is 6-8 times faster than Jev while offering completely open-source weights and no API costs, representing Mukkunnoth's response to seeing his March 2025 research concept commercialized without attribution by a well-funded competitor.
