Mathematical texts from a Maya site in Guatemala identify an ancient astronomer

Researchers have identified the name of an ancient Maya mathematician-astronomer, Sak Tahn Waax ("White-Chested Fox"), through a mathematical formula inscribed on a wall at the Xultun site in Guatemala. The discovery suggests he was a scholar comparable to major mathematical figures throughout history, marking the first time such an important Maya scientist has been identified by name through archaeological evidence.
