Meta removed dozens of paid advertisements containing AI-generated child sexual abuse material that ran across its platforms for nine months, reaching thousands of accounts in the US and Europe. Researchers at the Tech Transparency Project discovered over 50 image and video ads promoting "nudify" apps that had been reviewed and approved by Meta before running on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads. The ads, which Meta has since removed, represent a significant failure in the company's content moderation systems for paid advertising.
