Allegheny County has not conducted property reassessments since the 1970s, causing assessed values to significantly diverge from actual market values and creating inequities in the tax system. Pro-Housing Pittsburgh released a report demonstrating that modern, automated valuation methods using publicly available data could produce fair and transparent reassessments at approximately $1 million annually—far less costly than court-ordered reassessments. The analysis found that regular reassessments could generate tens of millions in annual economic benefits while improving system efficiency and public confidence.
