Single Dose of Frog-Derived Gut Bacterium Eradicates 100% of Tumors in Mice

A newly published study reports that a single intravenous dose of *Ewingella americana*, a bacterium isolated from amphibian gut microbiomes, completely eliminated tumors in 100% of treated mice with no toxicity, outperforming chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The bacterium works through a dual mechanism—directly killing tumor cells and activating immune responses—accumulating preferentially in the oxygen-poor tumor environment where it rapidly proliferates. While these preclinical results are striking, human trials are needed to validate the findings.
