Engineers at the University of Texas at Austin have developed a jacket that harvests drinking water directly from humid air, producing 400-900 milliliters per day depending on humidity levels. The fabric incorporates moisture-collecting fibers that funnel water to detachable heating units, showing three to ten times better performance than conventional water-harvesting materials. The technology could benefit hikers, agricultural workers, emergency responders, and people in water-scarce regions, with potential applications extending to backpacks, tents, and other portable gear.
