The UK is set to announce a ban on social media access for under-16s, following Australia's example by raising the minimum age requirement for platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube. The government plans to go further than Australia by also restricting AI chatbots and imposing curfews on older teenagers' social media use. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy confirmed the ban is part of a broader strategy to protect children online, noting that the government's consultation received overwhelming support with 116,000 responses.
