US Consumer Price Index up 4.2%
The U.S. Consumer Price Index increased 0.1% in July 2026 on a seasonally adjusted basis, with the 12-month inflation rate at 3.4%. Shelter costs drove roughly two-thirds of the monthly increase, while energy prices declined 1.5% during the month, though energy remained up 14.7% year-over-year.
