US employers spend over $1.5 billion annually fighting labor unions, primarily through union-avoidance consultants and legal services, according to a report by the Economic Policy Institute. Amazon alone spent $26.6 million on such consultants in 2025, while critics argue this money could instead be invested in workers and their workplaces. The report links these anti-union efforts to declining unionization rates in the US, which have fallen from 20.3% in 1983 to 10% today, despite 70% of Americans supporting labor unions.
